Vasiliki Nikolaidi was born in Athens in 2001. In 2019 she entered Lancaster University from which she graduated in 2022 with a First Class BA Hons degree in Fine Art. In 2022, she was Lancaster University’s nominee for the Freelands Painting Prize organized by the Freelands Foundation. Since 2022 she is living and working in Athens. She has participated in seven group exhibitions in Greece and one abroad.

Her work consists of paintings of optical illusions and more specifically of moiré patterns. A moiré pattern is often seen in digital screens, as a result of interference of different overlapping patterns of lines. The paintings are not just visual games, but a conversation between materiality and digital technology. She relies on the use of oil paints to render images connected to the digital world. In this way, she juxtaposes the materiality and sensitivity of the handmade with the perfection and clarity of machines and digital technology in the process of creating images that fool the eye. This is achieved through the manipulation of colour and form.
